Walt Disney World Resort has announced that “Captain EO,” the classic musical spectacular and thrilling space-fantasy adventure that ran at Epcot from 1986-94, will return to the theme park July 2, 2010. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and produced by George Lucas, “Captain EO” was a 17-minute, 3-D film that starred the Michael Jackson and Anjelica Huston. The colorful Disney-created characters in “Captain EO” included Hooter, Fuzzball, the Geex (which had two shaggy heads named Idy and Ody), Major Domo and Minor Domo. “Captain EO” will be presented multiple times daily at the Imagination Pavilion at Epcot, replacing “Honey, I Shrunk the Audience,” which is planned to return at an undetermined date.

Comprehensive Disney World Timeline

Orlando, Florida Guide (www.orlando-florida.net), the largest online guide to Disney World and Central Florida, has launched the most comprehensive Walt Disney World timeline on the Internet. The Walt Disney World Timeline highlights the evolution of the theme park from 1964 (when Walt Disney secretly started purchasing thousands of acres of land for his “Florida Project”) to 2010.

Orlando, Florida Guide’s Walt Disney World Timeline at www.orlando-florida.net takes readers on a fascinating journey through Disney World history that includes Walt Disney’s first hastily arranged press conference in 1965 detailing his plans for the project, site preparation for Disney’s Magic Kingdom, the grand opening of Disney World in 1971, the original attractions at Disney’s Magic Kingdom and the construction and grand opening of Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios (now known as Hollywood Studios), Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Blizzard Beach, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Downtown Disney, as well as the introduction of all new Disney attractions and resorts throughout the years.

“The comprehensive, up-to-date Walt Disney World Timeline at www.orlando-florida.net allows you to relive all of your favorite memories of the Disney theme parks throughout the years,” said Rich Weidman, editor of Orlando, Florida Guide. “We will continue to expand and revise the Walt Disney World Timeline as needed.”

Horizons

This Epcot Future World ride made its debut in 1983 and closed in 1999 to make way for Mission: SPACE. Although Horizons has developed somewhat of a cult following over the years, I remember it as a mediocre Future World attraction that dated very quickly.
